It was shortly after midnight when they decided they’d had enough driving back and forth over the same stretch of road. Neither was very enthusiastic about their chances of having actually accomplished anything. The road, the night, the very sense of time and space simply wasn’t the same tonight. The traffic flow was irritatingly normal. Dark clouds that began to build in late afternoon had produced little more than light drizzles, but the night sky was obscured, starless and moon free. Leila’s mystic atmosphere was nowhere in evidence.
Leila and Ryan, although feeling the physical drain of a long day, were nevertheless in surprisingly good spirit. Their second love-making session of the day had produced an even greater occurrence and depth of the feeling of being melded into both bodies simultaneously. An indescribable sensation that also seemed to heighten the sexual experience, and saying that this was much to their pleasure would, I suppose, seem redundant. But beyond the obvious, it also pleased them because it nourished the hope that their transformation might yet prove reversible.
“Are you going back to your apartment tonight?” Leila asks.
“Well, I’d rather not,” Ryan says. “I think we should stay together.”
“Yes, I agree. We really should.”
Neither felt compelled to share with the other that during their night’s drive each had been unable to keep their agreed upon wish foremost in their thoughts. Instead both had entertained a great variety of wishful meanderings.
Ryan drove back to Leila’s home, glancing at her frequently and smiling.
One way or another he figured he’d wake up tomorrow morning and be able to find his erection. And all would be right with the world. Or damn close anyway.
